Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Karl Frederic Robinson Papers, comprising five boxes which include material spanning the dates 1948 to 1976, are arranged into three categories: General and Professional Correspondence, Academic and Course-Related Materials, and Articles, Outlines and Reprints.

The first folder of the series contains a variety of biographical materials including press releases and newspaper clippings pertaining to Robinson.

Robinson's general and professional correspondence, comprising more than four boxes, which constitutes the bulk of the papers, largely falls within the period from 1958 to 1965. Carbons of Robinson's outgoing letters are often attached to pertinent incoming correspondence. The general correspondence reflects Robinson's interests in speech education, teacher training, communication problems and public speaking as well as his publications and university administrative duties. Following the general correspondences is one folder of intra-campus correspondence. Also included are two folders of correspondence with Robinson's publishers Longman's, Green & Co. and Scott, Foresman and Company, and two folders of correspondence pertaining to the Speech Association of America and The Speech Teacher, a journal on which Robinson served in several editorial capacities. Finally, there is one folder of correspondence and related course materials pertaining to Robinson's participation in a training program sponsored by the Oliver Iron Mining Division of U.S. Steel Corporation.

Academic and course materials comprise two-thirds of one box and include course outlines, class registers, study guides, syllabi, reading lists and a small amount of related correspondence concerning courses offered by Robinson in the Schools of Education and Speech, NROTC, the Traffic Institute and the Transportation Center. The academic materials also contain a folder of notes and papers from Robinson's graduate studies.

The last folder in the collection contains drafts of, outlines for, and reprints of articles by Robinson.
