Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Olga M. Haring Papers fill nine boxes and span the period 1952-1984, with the major portion falling between 1965 and 1975. The papers are organized in three categories: teaching files, research files, and publications. Also included are one folder of biographical materials, one of correspondence, and two of administrative files.

The teaching files document Haring's instruction in the cardio-pulmonary-renal clinic and deal with student involvement in medical records automation projects. The files consist largely of papers written by Haring's students covering both these areas. Correspondence and memoranda regarding teaching methods used in the clinic are also present. Haring's workshops on medical records automation are documented by workshop agendas, participant lists, and sample medical records information used as instructional material.

The largest portion of the papers consists of Haring's research files, filling seven boxes. They are arranged alphabetically by subject title. The bulk of these files pertain to Haring's research in automating patient's medical records. General administrative files relating to the computerized medical records project, known as the Computerized Record Summary System, includes budgets, correspondence, data analysis, computer data cards, flow charts, grant proposals, staff project assignments, patient schedules and questionnaires. Smaller categories within the research files cover experimental cardiac malformations and drug treatment of cardiac problems. The files on cardiac malformations contain notes on chicken and rat experiments, a small amount of drawings, as well as research notes and papers by colleagues. The drug treatment files include patient questionnaires from the cardio-pulmonary-renal clinic, evaluation of the responses, and grant proposals relating to research in this area.

The publications consist of material relating to journal articles written by Haring. A typical article file contains drafts and reprints. They are arranged alphabetically by title.
