The records of the Student War Council of Northwestern University include its constitution, as well as the constitution of the Illinois Collegiate War Council, of which the Student War Council of Northwestern University was a member. Minutes of the Student War Council of Northwestern University (1941-1944) are included, as well as committee reports. Of particular interest are files on "defense courses," offerred by Northwestern University, beginning as early as December 10, 1941, and including a class on internal combustion engines for ambulance drivers, as well as a course on knitting. Reports of the "Junior Hostesses" Committee reflect on the condition of soldiers, many of whom were suffering from battle fatigue at Fort Sheridan, and sailors and marines at Great Lakes Naval Station late in the war.
