Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Piven Theatre Workshop started as an exclusively educational institution, but just as the professional performing company evolved from its classes, so did Piven’s Young People’s Company (YPC). YPC consists of high school age students who have studied with Piven for at least two years. Led by Joyce Piven, the YPC program developed a repertoire of stories, performed in sets at the Amazingrace coffee house at Northwestern University, Chicago’s Organic Theatre, Evanston’s Noyes Cultural Arts Center, and various schools in the Chicago area. Soon, YPC began a yearly Story Theatre Festival. Similar to the adult company production files, this sub-series is ordered chronologically and includes rehearsal and performance materials. “General” folders include contact lists, organizational papers, and press materials on the company. Also included in this sub-series is the Junior Company, the apprentice version of YPC, for children ages eleven to thirteen.
