The Alfred Götzl and Franz Goetzl papers are divided into five categories housed in 15 boxes: papers by and owned by Alfred Götzl, papers of Franz Rudolf Goetzl, medical articles, books and course material from Franz Goetzl’s time at the Northwestern University Medical School and relatively oversized material varying in subject.

The papers of Alfred Götzl span the years of 1891 to 1954. These papers focus on Alfred Götzl’s research and work on tuberculosis in Austria, specifically in Vienna, in the 1930s.

The papers of Franz Goetzl span the years of 1928 to 1975. These papers vary in subject, though most are to do with his research into the senses in response to varying stimuli.

The assortment of medical articles span the years of 1917 to 1953, and cover many topics, although most are published copies of articles written by Franz Goetzl.

The books and course materials of Franz Goetzl span the years of 1935-1965. Most of these materials are spiral bound textbooks from Franz Goetzl’s time as a student at the Northwestern University Medical School.

The last portion of the collection, boxes 12 through 15, spanning the years of 1897 to 1978, consists of oversized material. The contents vary greatly in subject, although there is a large collection of Franz Goetzl’s experiments, and notebooks related to these experiments.
