Scope and Contents
The Frank M. Mason papers fill one box and include biographical materials, correspondence, speech drafts and related materials.
The biographical materials include a few clippings, mainly relating to Mason's retirement: Mason's registration to practice before the U.S. Patent Office; a certificate marking his election as a civil member of the American Society of Naval Engineers; his registration as a professional engineer in Illinois; and obituaries.
The general correspondence (the bulk of the collection) deals mostly with personal and family matters and is arranged in chronological order. Subject correspondence relates to Mason's involvement with several organizations, two Mason family farms, and various business related projects including patents and the preparation of job descriptions for positions at Fairbanks, Morse. Mason's European trip in 1950 to study diesel engine manufacturing is documented here. Material in the folder labeled National Academy of Sciences pertains to the establishment of criteria for diesel-powered emergency electric generating sets.
The speech drafts and related material pertain to Mason's work on behalf of Fairbanks. Morse.
