The University Attorney's real estate records fill thirteen records center boxes and date approximately from 1949 to 1989. The records relate to mortgages once held by Northwestern University. They document mortgage loans made to faculty members and have since matured. A typical file includes correspondence, tax bills, property description, the applicant's financial statement, mortgage application, payment report, canceled checks, title report, application for title insurance, survey map of the plot and dwelling, and home insurance policy. The files are arranged alphabetically according to the mortgage holder's surname.

Box 13 contains matured mortgage files arranged alphabetically according to the mortgage holder's surname. These files differ from the files in the first twelve boxes, containing documents relating to the mortgage application only. No documents relating to title searches, title insurance, or other legal instruments are contained here.
