Summer and Smoke, 1957
Description of the Addition
This addition to the Alvina Krause Collection fills four boxes and contains papers, photographs, and posters from the Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania Playhouse. Box 7 contains playbills, season subscriptions, and other marketing material for The Playhouse. Box 8 contains two wood-framed handwritten documents, one listing ticket prices and theatre seating arrangements, and the other listing box office information and performance hours. An enlarged print of two photographs shows Alvina Krause and The Playhouse, with text reading: “Subtext: Yes, there was.…”something different about The Playhouse….” Love, A. K..” The print is housed in Folder 1 of Box 9, due to its size. The poster collection is housed in Box 9 (1953-1957) and Box 10 (1958-1964). Each of the 54 posters displays a bright, relevantly themed design referencing the respective play. They generally follow a similar format, where the run times and “Playhouse Eagles Mere” are listed in the lower left corner, but some posters incorporate this section into the larger design of the piece.
