These materials reflect McNerney's activities while the Herman Smith Professor of Health Policy at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. The files include his lecture notes and a small amount of other University-related material. Much more of the material concerns McNerney's activities with various government commissions, non-governmental organizations, and corporate boards. Of particular note are the files concerning his successful fight to save the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research when it was threatened by powerful Congressional lobbying groups. The numerous letters of recommendations he wrote for friends and students and his meticulous travel expense notes are also included. There are chronological correspondence files for 1991, 1993, and 1994-1996. There are also copies of his daily calendar for 1991 and 1992.
