Biographical Materials

The Franklin B. Evans Papers occupy four boxes and span the period 1957-1990. Most of the material falls within the period of 1957 to 1975.

The papers are organized in three main categories: correspondence, teaching files, and publications. There are also small amounts of biographical materials and administration files.

The correspondence deals with Evans dissertation and subsequent related articles, other published articles (mostly reviews), research projects (including a study on the interaction of salesmen and sales prospects and a study on widows), teaching and other academic concerns, and personal matters. It is arranged chronologically by date.

The teaching files include syllabi, lecture and reading notes, examinations and problems, and grade sheets from all three universities. These are organized by subject (Advertising, Business, Marketing) and by the level of the class.

The publications category includes articles by Evans, bound copies of Evans doctoral dissertation and his report on young widows (Box 4 Folder 1). There are also a few drafts and notes for several of his articles.

Of interest in the administration files are copies of a report detailing the results of a General Faculty Committee questionnaire on the faculty, a report on graduate student recruiting at Medill, and a report of the New Student Week Sub-Committee of the Northwestern Community Council, all written by Evans.
