The Marilyn Greene Papers comprise 36 boxes of newspaper clippings, travel itineraries, mementos from trips to Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East; photographs, slides and photo negatives; internal communications and awards from Gannett; Greene’s press credentials, expired passports and tickets to events she covered; correspondence Greene wrote and received during her travels; materials from her two fellowship stays in Hawaii/Asia and her three-month fellowship in Cameroon; photographs, transcripts, classwork and other mementos from her high school and college years; papers from her summer interning at NASA and her months abroad with Syracuse and Student Religious Liberals; articles, notes, mementos and other materials from the JetCapade; notes from her interviews for the Department of State and the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training; materials from her reporting on the Gulf War and materials from her tenure as director of the World Press Freedom Committee. Of particular note are an Iraqi helmet she picked up on the “Highway of Death” while covering the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1991, a newspaper from the morning after the 1963 March on Washington that includes coverage and photos of the event, a personal letter from Barbara Bush, and “Free Kuwait” pins and flags from her 1991 reporting trip.

There are no restrictions on use of the materials in the department for research; all patrons must comply with federal copyright regulations. This collection is stored off-site and requires two business days advance notice for retrieval.
