Rose Bowl goalpost fragment, 1949-01-01
Scope and Contents
The collection documents Rahr’s involvement as a player with the Northwestern University football teams of 1924 and 1925 and with the notable Big Ten championship team of 1926. Included in the collection is a small, wood-mounted photograph of Rahr wearing his Northwestern football uniform. Also included is a wooden umbrella handle stamped with lettering which identifies that handle as an artifact of the November 7, 1925 Northwestern versus Michigan game. A 3 to 2 Northwestern home victory, that game was played during a rainstorm on a muddy field. Finally, the collection features a large sliver of wood, augmented with purple ribbon, that had been acquired by Rahr: a fragment of a Rose Bowl goalpost that was torn down and splintered after Northwestern defeated the University of California on January 1, 1949.
