 Series

Scope and Contents

The addition is comprised of a collection of sixteen maps drawn or collected by Howland during the course of his work for the United States Geological Survey, Bureau of Mines. These maps detail the Stillwater region of Montana, particularly topographical detail and cross-sections. The maps span the years 1937-1954, but most are dated 1941-1942. During the Second World War, the U.S. Geological Survey mapped areas of the U.S., particularly the Stillwater region, in search of strategic mineral deposits.
