Interns, 1961 - 1963

The addition to the English Department administrative records fills six boxes and span the years, 1955-1988. The bulk of the materials date from the 1970s. The addition is divided into two categories: general files; and assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships files.

The general files fill most of the boxes and date between 1957-1988. They are arranged alphabetically according to topical subject headings. Materials within the folders are arranged chronologically by date, except one folder of recommendation letters organized alphabetically by the students' sir name. Many different topics are covered in the general files including faculty rosters; class schedules and statistics; undergraduate and graduate student lists and statistics; course enrollment and scheduling; committee lists and records (especially the executive, undergraduate and appointments committees); student lists and program information on the writing major; writing contest winners, prizes, and correspondence; and many other files dealing with routine administrative and student matters.

The assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships files fill eight folders and span the years 1955-1987. These records contain correspondence; lists of students who received financial aid; departmental applications for federal aid; and descriptions of a few of the fellowships available. Teaching assistantship records comprise the bulk of the material which includes lists of teaching assistants and their assigned professors; correspondence (usually concerning office space); and some information about the stipend amount the students received.
