Photographs by William R. Martin, 1936 - 1937
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a set of 139 eight-by-ten inch, black-and-white photographic prints mounted and matted on thirteen-by-thirteen inch cardboard and paper mounts. Also included is one unmounted eight-by-ten inch, black and white photographic print. The set reflects Martin’s student-era efforts at various forms of photography – photojournalistic, narrative, artistic, commercial, and portraiture – and appear to document his experiences in and around Denver, Colorado. According to Martin’s wife, Sonia, the photographic portfolio, regardless of subject-matter, is reflective of his graduate training at Northwestern and may be interpreted as an example of student work submitted for curricular purposes at the Medill School of Journalism.
