This addition to the Thomas Franklin Holgate Papers fills 8 boxes and spans the years 1874 through 1970, with the bulk of the records dating between 1890 and 1923. These records are divided into five categories: Thomas Holgate’s professional materials, Georgina Holgate’s biographical materials, correspondence, photographs and slides, and oversized items. Box 6 contains information on Thomas Holgate’s professional career and comprises of certificates, thesis and a dissertation, reprints of publications, a United States passport with a Chinese visa, correspondence with publishers, and sympathy letters sent by associates. General biographical materials of Georgina Holgate and her personal calendars fill box 7. One calendar, dating from 1921-1922, describes the travels of Thomas and Georgina Holgate through China, Korea, and Japan. Boxes 8 through 10 contain correspondence mainly between Thomas and Georgina Holgate. Photographs and slides of Thomas Holgate and his family as well as photographs from academic institutions Holgate attended, are located in box 10. Box 11 contains a variety of oversized materials, such as photographs from Holgate’s trip to China and certificates. Also included are records of Thomas Holgate’s son Holgate Young documenting his engagement with the Northwestern University Navy V-12 Unit and United States Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. A glass plate negative and photograph of Thomas, Robert, and Eleanor Holgate are located in box 12. Box 13 contains an oversized panorama photograph of the University of Nanking, China, and is located in the box with oversized panorama photographs (Deering Library, room 209).
