Scope and Contents

"D.H. To 1st 1/2 of 8-1-72. Side 1. Initial conversation with class not useful; then she makes distinction between developing a character and assuming an attitude; talks about how she introduces dramatic text. 2nd half: she introduces 'Ship of Hell' as example of a text none of students know--long silences and uninteresting material; ends with good discussion of getting into tewxt by elaborating a facet. Side 2. She introduces how you'd sort out priorities of values; part is hard to hear. Discussion of how group felt about sorting qualities they want in a husband or wife. It's not very valuable. Last third has some good observations on English schools. Then story of teaching historical method using dustmen's strike in Bristol"
