Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This series reflects the range of Schmehling's responsibilities, and consists of correspondence, internal memoranda, financial reports, and meeting minutes. The correspondence and memoranda, some of which predate Schmehling's tenure at Northwestern, are scattered over the period 1922-1963. A good portion of the records concern the funding and operation of a Department of Nutrition within the Northwestern University Medical School, under the auspices of the Spies Committee for Clinical Research. Other records deal with the Kresge Centennial Campaign, the Illinois Law Review, the Ipatieff High Pressure Laboratory, plans for the 1958 annual convention of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers, topics for discussion at the 1962 Midwestern Business Officers' meeting, and University investments. Meeting minutes are included with the Investment Department correspondence. One folder of minutes (1954-1960) documents the meetings of the Spies Committee for Clinical Research.
