Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Gray Boyce Papers are held in three and a half archival boxes and divided into three subseries: Biographical, Scholarly and Correspondence. The bulk of the materials are in the Correspondence series.

Biographical material includes press releases, official forms, and obituaries. Scholarly material is contained in three folders and consists of scholarly articles and reviews, a few course syllabi, and library request forms. The overwhelming majority of the Boyce material is contained in Correspondence. Almost all of these letters come from Boyce's time as department chair, and accordingly the material relates to his function in that capacity. (Occasionally the letters spill over into his retirement, but none precede his time at Northwestern.) Most correspondence pertains to Northwestern graduate students. It consists, in roughly equal parts, of correspondence with a given student and correspondence with a third party about that student.
