Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Robert W. Sekuler Papers fill thirteen boxes and span the period 1960-1989. They are organized in five categories: correspondence, teaching files, research files, papers presented before professional organizations, and publications. Four folders of biographical materials are also included.

The general correspondence deals primarily with Sekuler s research and publication activities. The subject correspondence consists mainly of recommendations for graduate students and faculty colleagues.

The teaching files consist primarily of course lecture and reading notes. There are also some exam and grade sheets. A small number of subject files relating to Sekuler's teaching activities are filed at the end of this category.

The research files, the largest category, consist of research proposals, notes, data, correspondence, and reports. Material in many of the files relate to Sekuler's grant-supported and contracted research with branches of the U.S. military. Grant-supported research from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health are documented as well in this section.

The category of Papers Presented before Professional Organizations includes drafts, notes, and correspondence.

The publications category includes drafts of articles authored by Sekuler, correspondence, notes, and reprints. The last folder holds 41 5 1/4" diskettes containing the text of Sekuler's book, Perception, published by Random House/Knopf in 1985.
