The William Crotty Papers span the years 1967-1995, with the bulk of the materials dating between 1967 and 1980 and consisting of teaching files for his courses in Political Science from 1967 to 1978. Biographical and correspondence files are also included.

The biographical file contains c.v.s, press releases, and other materials dating between 1966 and 1987. Correspondence with students, publishers, and Northwestern University colleagues and administrators spans the years 1967-1979, with one letter from 1995 announcing his departure for Northeastern. As documented in a folder of newspaper and magazine clippings (1972-1990), Crotty was often cited as an expert on political parties, political assassinations, and Latin American elections. In particular, his May, 1972, article on assassinations in the journal Society was reported on in numerous publications across the country. Articles, reprints, papers presented, and reports date between 1966 and 1989 and reflect Crotty's range of interests. Of particular note is his report on the 1987 election in Haiti, submitted to the Council on Hemispheric Affairs in Washington.

Teaching files include courses taught at Northwestern University, Georgetown University, and the University of Georgia. The material includes syllabi, reading lists, Library Reserve Room lists, assignments, examinations, lecture notes, and class rolls with grades. student examination (Blue) books, student reports and term papers, and a doctoral dissertation proposal.
