Continuing Education Files, Spring 1981

This addition to the Records of the Alumnae of Northwestern University fills seven boxes and spans the period 1968-1995. These records are divided into seven categories: Correspondence; Board of Directors Files; Committee Files; News Releases and Newspaper Clippings; WAA-MU, NU Day, and Alumnae Awards Files; Alumnae Continuing Education Files; and Fellowships and Grants Files.

Most correspondence is filed with the records of the office, committee, or period from which it originated. In some cases, however, this was not possible, hence it is filed as general correspondence and is arranged chronologically by date.

The Board of Directors Files consist of two different sets of records. The first are the materials relating exclusively to the offices of the President and Vice President. Correspondence constitutes the large part of these files, but the Reports of the President and Vice President are also included. The second set concerns the Board of Directors as a whole. Included in these files are the lists of the members of the Board of Directors and the minutes of its meetings. These files are arranged in subject folders and chronologically by date within folders.

The Committee files are similar to the Board of Directors files. In addition to lists of Committee Chairpersons and their members, the files also contain some correspondence between Northwestern University faculty and administrators and the Committees. The files mainly hold the minutes of the committee meetings. These files are arranged alphabetically by committee name and chronologically by date within folders.

The files containing news releases, newspaper clippings, WAA-MU, NU Day, and the Alumnae Awards are sparse. The file on Alumnae Awards contains a listing of the recipients of this honor between 1976 and 1991. The WAA-MU file contains work done by Alumnae relating to the 1992 WAA-MU Show. These files are arranged by subject into folders and chronologically by date within folders.

The files relating to Alumnae Continuing Education form the vast majority of this addition. These records consist primarily of the financial records of the Continuing Education program. Each file contains purchase forms, invoices, and balance sheets. In addition, the bank statements and check register for the years 1978-1993 are included in these files. In addition, course brochures and class lists are contained in the folders. These records are arranged by academic quarter-year and chronologically by date within folders.

The final category documents the financial support given by the Alumnae to students and faculty at Northwestern. Contained in these files are the applications for, and decisions about, Alumnae-sponsored gifts and grants. The records are divided into four subcategories: Graduate Fellowships; Alumnae Gifts and Grants; Academic Enrichment Grants; and Alumnae Professor Awards. The records are arranged by subject and chronologically by date within folders.
