Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This addition to the Records of the Alumnae of Northwestern University fills one and one half-size archival boxes and spans the years 1989 to 2001, with the bulk of the records dating between 1993 and 1999. These records fall into 12 categories: Historical Material, Board of Directors Files, Committee Reports, Financial Records, WAA-MU, NU Day, 75th Anniversary, University Hall Fundraising Campaign, Alumnae Awards, Scholarships, Gifts and Grants, and Academic Enrichment.

Folders are arranged in chronological order with the exception of committee files, which are arranged alphabetically by committee title. Within the folders, materials are arranged chronologically. News releases and newspaper clippings were retained with the specific program file. Most correspondence is filed with the records of the office, committee, or period with which it originated.

The Historical Material is contained in one folder, which includes a 2000 revision to the By-laws of the Association.

The Board of Directors Files span the years 1991 to 2000. Three folders relate exclusively to the offices of the President and the Executive Committee of the Board. Correspondence constitutes the large part of these files, but the Reports of the President and Corresponding Secretary are also included. Four folders concern the Board of Directors as a whole. Included in these files are Minutes of Board Meetings and Annual Meeting documentation, which spans the years 1993 to 2000. In addition, the Board of Director files include membership information, nominations, applications, and member lists and biographies. These folders are arranged alphabetically by name and chronologically by date within folders.

The Committee files are similar to the Board of Directors files. In addition to the lists of Committee Chairpersons and their members, the files also contain correspondence between Northwestern University faculty and administrators and the committees, especially those committees which award monetary funds such as the Gifts and Grants Committee and Academic Enrichment Committee. Files mainly hold the minutes of the committee meetings. These folders are arranged alphabetically by committee name and chronologically by date within folders.

Financial Records consist of two folders, which include financial summaries and balance sheet reports documenting years 1991 to 1993 and the Treasurer's Reports from 1991 to 1994.

The WAA-MU file contains reports and project schedules from 1993 to 2000 on this annual event.

The NU Seminar Day file includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, and programs for seminars from 1990 to 1999.

The 75th Anniversary file consists of correspondence related to the selection of the speaker for the 1990 event by the Alumnae Association.

The University Hall Fundraising Campaign file consists of correspondence between members of the Board and Northwestern University administrators between 1992 and 1993.

The Alumnae Awards files relate to specific monetary awards given by the Alumnae Association. The first file is the 2000 Alumnae Award given to Augusta Read Thomas (NU '87) during the Sesquicentennial Celebration Kickoff Weekend on October 20-21, 2000. The file contains brochures, newspaper clippings, and a program signed by Ms. Thomas, as well as a signed copy of her speech. The CAS Best Teaching Award file contains correspondence dated 1990 between the President of the Alumnae Association and Northwestern University administrators about the grant payment issued the same year. The Undergraduate Research Project file consists of correspondence between Board members and Northwestern University faculty and administrators regarding proposal submissions to the grant fund between 1989 and 1992.

The documentation contained in the two folders found within the Scholarship files exclusively relates to the Women's Alumnae Board Scholarship. The first folder consists of correspondence that spans from 1992 to 1995. The second folder contains a recipient list of previous scholarships awarded from 1990 to 1994.

The Gifts and Grants file consists of six folders related exclusively to grant proposals submitted by Northwestern University faculty and administrators between 1989 and 1997. The bulk of the records date between 1990 and 1994, with no records from 1995 to 1996 and one record dated 1997.

The Academic Enrichment files relate exclusively to grant proposals submitted by Northwestern University faculty and administrators between 1989 and 1995 and 1997 and 2000.

The documentation contained in the Continuing Education file consists exclusively of course brochures from 1999 to 2000.
