Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The addition to the Records of the Alumnae of Northwestern University fills one archival box and spans the years 1933-2001, with the majority of the material dating between 1995 and 2001. These records fall into 12 categories: Board of Directors, Committee Reports, Financial Records, 75th Anniversary, Continuing Education, Gifts and Grants, Contemporary Concerns, Alumni Education, WAA-MU, Book and Author Program, and NU Day.

Folders are arranged in alphabetical order within each subseries. Within the folders, materials are arranged chronologically. Correspondence is filed with the records of the office, committee, or period with which it originated.

The Board of Directors material spans 1980-2001 and consists mostly of minutes of Board meetings and lists of Board officers and presidents. There are also a few program schedules and a 1998 Report of the President.

The Committee Reports date between 1990-2001 and - like the Board of Directors material - consist mostly of reports by the committees of their activities. Some folders contain correspondence, particularly the Long Range Planning Committee folder. There are also a couple of annual reports and agendas for the meetings.

The Financial Records span the years 1979-1999. There is a tremendous amount of detailed Alumni Account Information from 1998 and 1999. There are also balance sheets, financial summaries, treasurer's reports, and some correspondence from 1979-1980 relating to the taxable nature of the Alumnae Organization.

The 75th Anniversary material, spanning 1988-1990, relates to the 75th Anniversary Benefit Concert in 1990 as well as the organization of the 75th Anniversary Gift project. Correspondence relates to the early stages of that project. Of particular note is an exhaustive list of those who donated money and how much they gave.

The Continuing Education material dates between 1977-2001 and consists entirely of brochures for the committee's Daytime Courses. All but one of these spans the period 1980-1994. (Previous boxes in this collection contain the more recent brochures.) The second folder contains committee minutes, correspondence, annual reports, and a few miscellaneous documents.

Each of the remaining categories is contained in one folder:

Gifts and Grants spans 1993-2001 and is a collection of largely unassociated documents. Of note is a list of grant winners from 1933-1986. The Contemporary Concerns folder relates to a 1995 event at which the Alumnae Organization discussed social and political issues, the material spans 1995-1995. The Alumni Education consists of a single document from 1995 that addresses classes for the upcoming year. The WAA-MU folder spans 1980-1997 and consists of correspondence and requests for computers. The Book and Author Program material, spanning 1994-1996, consists mostly of fliers and correspondence relating to an event at which a Northwestern faculty member discussed a recent publication. The NU Day folder consists mostly of programs from the NU Day in 1990.
