Professional Materials (boxes 1-2)

The William "Bill" DeCorrevont collection consists of one archival box of papers, spanning the dates 1936-1996 but primarily covering the 1930s and 1940s.

Box 1 contains mainly photographs, copies of high school and university yearbook pages, football ticket stubs, newspaper clippings relating to DeCorrevont, a 1939 Northwestern vs. Wisconsin game program, DeCorrevont’s professional football statistics, and programs from his memorial service. Folders in Box 1 are arranged in alphabetical order, items within folders are in chronological order.

Box 2 contains one oversize folder with three large scrapbook pages featuring newspaper clippings relating to DeCorrevont’s selection of Northwestern, from the Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Herald and Examiner, and The Chicago American. Another folder contains a full copy of the November 1939 special "War Feature" edition of Look Magazine, the cover of which features a picture of Bill DeCorrevont in his football uniform. Pages 44-45 of the magazine are a feature spread titled, "Northwestern Is On The Spot," which includes both pictures of and text about DeCorrevont.

Artifacts (boxes 3-5)

Box numbers 3 and 4 contain two off-white sweaters, each with a sewn-on emblem, one reading "All-American 1942," the other reading "All East."

Box number 5 includes a commemorative belt buckle with "NU 20- ND 0" and "Northwestern" engraved on the front, and "Bill DeCorrevont - L.H.B." on the back. It was given to the players of the Northwestern team after they defeated the University of Notre Dame 20-0 in 1940.

William "Bill" DeCorrevont played football at Austin High and Northwestern University before entering professional football in 1945. The papers consist of biographical information, documents, clippings, and artifacts relating to his football career.

Method of Acquisition

This collection was donated to the Northwestern University Archives by James DeCorrevont on November 20, 2012 as Accession Number 12-242.
