Scope and Contents
This series, filling ten boxes, consists of departmental files on individual doctoral degree recipients, ca. 1948-1977, from the Northwestern University History Department. Typically found in each student's file are some of the following forms of documentation: correspondence between the student and departmental representatives, transcripts relating to undergraduate and graduate study, evaluations of graduate coursework, examinations, evaluations of oral examinations, applications for admission to degree candidacy and for financial aid, research and dissertation proposals, and occasional research papers. Biographical information and information relating to the fulfillment of departmental requirements are recorded in varying detail on each individual's file folder.

The files are arranged in alphabetical order according to student surname.
Method of Acquisition
The History Department transferred these records to the University Archives on March 27, 1987 (Accession #87-50).
Other Descriptive Information
Box 10, Folder 11, pertaining to Donna M. Watson, was transferred to Series 11/3/16/14. There is no Box 10, Folder 11 in this series.
