Scope and Contents

Collection contains meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, statements, and printed materials relating to the Campus Religious Counselors (CRC) of Northwestern University. The pamphlet titled “A Religious Happening” in the Brochures and Flyers folder (box 1, folder 7) describes the CRC as “trained religious counselors who direct the program of activities for their several religious groups.” The CRC was made up primarily of Christian faith leaders, but consistently included Jewish faith leaders as well. The collection is arranged in one half-size archival box and spans from 1956-1974.

Series 1: Campus Religious Counselors Meeting Minutes, 1960-1974. Includes two files, CRC Minutes-1960’s and CRC Minutes-1970’s. Of interest in this series are meeting minutes discussing issues of race, sexuality, and drug use on campus.

Series 2: Campus Religious Counselors Correspondence, 1960-1973. Contains one folder with correspondence from and to members of the CRC.

Series 3: Statements and Reports, 1956-1974. Contains three files: Statements, Reports, Directories and Events. Items of interest include discussion in the Statements file of racial justice, and an invitation to a training program for conscientious objector counsellors in the Directories and Events folder.

Series 4: Printed Material, 1965-1973. Contains one file, Brochures and Flyers. Items of interest include a pamphlet concerning conscientious objection.
