Scope and Contents

The Northwestern University Video Cassette Collection currently contains more than 5000 VHS, Betamax, and U-matic videocassettes documenting university events between the late 1970s and early 2000s, although some earlier footage has been transferred from film. Topics found here include sports, lectures, theatre and music productions, interviews, convocations, ceremonies, and other programs and footage documenting Northwestern students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

There are no restrictions on use of the materials in the department for research; all patrons must comply with federal copyright regulations. This collection is stored off-site and requires two business days advance notice for retrieval. Abstract

The Northwestern University Video Cassette Collection currently consists of more than 5000 VHS, Betamax, and U-matic videocassettes. The items date from 1927 through 2012 and were donated by various sources, relating to various aspects of Northwestern University life and faculty and alumni careers.

Arrangement

The Northwestern University Video Cassette Collection (Series No. 76/3) is an artificial collection, meaning it was compiled by archives staff from multiple sources based on format. The videocassettes are physically arranged within boxes in numerical order by their unique identifiers, which were sequentially numbered by archives staff as items were acquired over time.
