Scope and Contents

The Elizabeth F. Wysor Papers fill 7 boxes and span the years 1927 through 2000, with the bulk of the material dating between 1938 and 1948. Included are professional biographical materials, concert programs, recital announcements, correspondence, publicity materials, and records.

Biographical: professional materials include faculty biographical records of Northwestern University (Box 1, Folder 2), a calendar (Box 1, Folder 4), clippings (Box 1, Folders 5-7), bank records (Box 1, Folder 1), insurance documents (Box 1, Folder 3), and a poem book by Anne Ayer with drawings by Elizabeth Wysor (Box 1, Folder 8). Items within each file are arranged chronologically (except clippings).

The correspondence subseries contains letters relating to her career, and letters and postcards received from Wysor's family (father Henry, mother Mary, and sister Virginia Purdy) and friends.

Programs for recitals mainly in churches fill Box 3, Folder 1.

Box 3, Folder 2 through 5, include publicity materials (recital announcements, notes, invitations) of Northwestern University, and flyers and posters of festivals and operas. Items within each file are arranged chronologically.

Box 4 through 7 contain phonograph records with most of the arias and folk songs sung by Wysor.

Abstract

Elizabeth Wysor was an American opera singer and educator. On May 15, 1953 she was appointed assistant professor of voice at the School of Music at Northwestern University, where she taught mainly applied voice, phonetics and diction. She retired in 1970. Her papers fill 7 boxes and span the years 1927 through 2000. Included are professional biographical materials, concert programs, recital announcements, correspondence, publicity materials, and phonograph records.

The Elizabeth F. Wysor Papers are arrnged into: biographical materials; correspondence (arranged by date); concert programs and recital announcements (arranged by date); publicity materials (non-Northwestern and Northwestern, each arranged by date); and phonograph records.

Method of Acquisition

The Elizabeth F. Wysor Papers were donated to the University Archives on April 21, 2008, by Bruce Duffie (Accession No. 08–53).

Separated Materials

Photographs of Elizabeth F. Wysor, including photographs from her family, friends and colleagues, were separated and added to the University Archives Photograph Collection.
