Scope and Contents

This series, comprising eleven boxes, consists of the administrative records of Ralph Westfall.

The records document the later portion of Westfall's administrative position, 1969-1974, with a very small amount of records dating from 1961-1969. Virtually no records dating before 1961 are present. Correspondence, memoranda, reports, grant applications and proposals, notes, and materials on conferences, committees, and the faculty are included in the series.

A substantial portion of the series relates to degree programs and research conducted by the School. The MBA, Master of Management (MM), and doctoral programs are well represented. Joint programs with other schools such as the Law Enforcement Administration program with the NU Traffic Institute, and the joint doctoral program with the French Foundation (a select group of management schools in France) are also included. Committee materials relating to a joint School of Education/Graduate School of Management (GSM) degree in Educational Management are filed under the subject heading “Committees.”

Research grants and proposals involving the School from 1966 to 1974 are well represented here. Summer research and proposals, faculty proposals, grants from NASA, the Ford Foundation, and the Sloan Foundation, comprise the bulk of the research material.

General correspondence and related materials document the duties of the Associate Dean from the late 1960s to 1974. Documentation of these duties relating to the School's departments are filed under the subject heading, “Departments, GSM”. Memoranda to department chairmen and faculty can be found in the “Correspondence” section. One folder of international correspondence was maintained separately by the Associate Dean's office and is filed alphabetically by folder title under “Correspondence” as well. The remaining correspondence and related materials pertain to NU administrators, faculty, Westfall's colleagues at other institutions, and other individuals.
