History Department Administrative Records
Scope and Contents
This series, arranged in nine boxes, spans the years from 1892 through 2006, although the majority of the records dates between 1970 and 2006. The series is divided into three sub-series: general files, minutes of departmental meetings, and subject files.
The general files form the major portion of the series, filling five boxes. They date between 1942 and 2006 and are arranged chronologically. The general files concern a wide variety of topics including department curriculum, committees, and policy; sponsored lectures and conferences; and routine administrative matters. The bulk of the files document varied aspects of graduate study such as course offerings and requirements, admissions, enrollment, examinations and grades, student research, teaching requirements, and placement.
The minutes of departmental faculty meetings span the period 1954-2002 and are arranged chronologically in two toxes. Materials within the folders are also arranged chronologically by date of meeting.
The subject files from the last part of the series and fill two boxes. These records span the period from 1892 through 2006 and are arranged alphabetically by sub-heading. This material deals with many different topics, including, among others: course offerings, curricular development, and graduate study.
