English Department Course Materials

This series, filling five boxes, contains English Department course material files, for the years 1964-1985. The materials mostly consist of exams, reading lists, and syllabi, but they also include materials, relating to freshman seminars, introductory studies, and miscellaneous courses.

The exam files consist of copies of exams. The information contained in the files usually includes the quarter the exam was given, sometimes the exact date, the professor's name, and the course number. Also included in the files are student's term paper assignments.

The freshman seminar files contain lists of freshman seminars available in the university as well as course schedules, course descriptions, and course reading lists for those seminars offered through the English Department.

The introductory studies files are comprised of descriptions of the introductory studies' disciplines, course schedules, descriptions of courses offered and related material.

The reading lists and syllabi files usually provide lists of books and authors read during the quarter, an outline of the major topics to be covered, a brief description of the goals of the course, and occasionally test dates and term paper assignments.

The miscellaneous course materials contain the same information found in the exams and reading lists and syllabi sections as well as correspondence, class lists, and course descriptions. Of special note are the files relating to the B50/C50 course sequence. These files contain reports, proposals and related items detailing some instructional changes in the sequence.
