From the Collection:

These files of Tribune Company's counsel Kirkland & Ellis include documents on the formation and/or dissolution of the divisions of the company's holdings and subsidiaries in the United States and Canada between 1889 and 1965 (articles of incorporation, agreements, papers regarding subsidiaries, purchase and transfer of properties, deeds, information on timber rights). Correspondence includes information on crime exposés published in the Chicago Tribune, contracts with newspaper carriers, etc. The collection also includes McCormick family agreements, trusts, wills and other personal family documents; miscellaneous personal correspondence between Kirkland & Ellis lawyers and Tribune Company staff on business matters such as libel and taxes or social matters such as tickets or wedding announcements, leases, contracts, etc.; and 21 phonograph records, most of them two-sided, with speeches marking the 65th birthdays of R.R. McCormick (July 28, 1945) and Louis Rose (August 21, 1945). A single phonograph record contains Bob Siegrist's WGN interview of Sen. Joseph McCarthy (August 17, 1954).
