IX-9: Abraham Lincoln

 File

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This series contains material originally assembled by the Tribune Company Archives as an adjunct to its collection of materials on the Chicago Tribune, the Tribune Company, and related enterprises. The series consists primarily of materials related to the Archive's collections: correspondence, deeds of gift, photocopies, clippings, finding aids, pamphlets, and similar materials. These materials can provide important context for understanding materials in the Tribune Company Archives. In addition to the secondary material, this collection also includes some primary collection material. (Examples are a letter from Sen. Charles Sumner written about two weeks after the Lincoln assassination; and transcriptions of oral history interviews.)

This "vertical file" maintained by the Tribune Company Archives chiefly to hold internal records is distinct from the "vertical file" (XI-127) that the Archives maintained for materials about the Chicago Tribune.
