Biographical / Historical
George von Lengerke Meyer was an American businessman and politician from Massachusetts. He served as Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1894 to 1896), as United States Ambassador to Italy (1901 to 1905) and to Russia (1905 to 1907). He later served as U.S. Postmaster General (1907 to 1909), and Secretary of the Navy (1909 to 1913). He lived from 1858 to 1918.
