Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Charlotte Moorman Archive exhaustively documents the life and activities of Charlotte Moorman, cellist, performer and concert organizer. It includes correspondence, posters, photographs, sound recordings, video recordings, artwork and other materials.

A major constituent of the Moorman Archive is the group of materials related to the fifteen Avant Garde Festivals Moorman that she organized (1963 to 1980). Originally musical concerts in a traditional format, these grew to encompass art in all forms, and attracted artists from many countries.

Most impersonal correspondence from organizations (such as fund-raising letters) is in the organizations series. Information about exhibitions and other public events is either the Moorman events or the non-Moorman events series, but this series does contain invitations to private events (such as parties and dinners). However, post cards, flyers and other information about public events is present in this series when it duplicates information present elsewhere
