Abstract
This collection contains miscellaneous items chiefly relating to the Chicago Tribune. Materials include clippings, reprints, correspondence and photographs.
Arrangement
Arrangement completed prior to receiving the collection from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. In the original finding aid, items 1-4 are headed "Particularly valuable originals;" items 5-33 are headed "Other material, in chronological order;" and items 34-38 are headed "Added in October" (no year for the addition is stated).
Custodial History
This material was in the collection of Everett W. McClane, a retired professor of mathematics at DePaul University, who died July 7, 1984, at the age of 79. Most of it was deposited in the Tribune Company Archives on September 17, 1984, by Kenan Heise, who was handling the literary material in the estate. It was then purchased from Mr. McClane's daughter, Mary VorBroker, of DesPlaines, with a check for $1,000. Several items were added by Heise after the purchase. Heise believes that much of McClane's material had come from the earlier collection of Lawrence E. Dicke.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Received from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, Chicago Tribune Company, and Nexstar Media Group on January 10, 2020, accession #SPEC-2020-1.
