Biographical / Historical
Sherwin Warren King was born on December 21, 1839, in Warrenville, Illinois, and died at the Battle of Chickamauga Creek on September 21, 1863. He was a sergeant in Company K, 42nd Regiment of the Illinois Volunteers.

Abstract
Collection consists of the papers of Sherwin Warren King from his service as a sergeant in Company K, 42nd Regiment of the Illinois Volunteers during the American Civil War, as well as some papers from King's family and relatives. Collection dates from 1861 to 1942.

The Sherwin Warren King Collection was recieved from Dr. and Mrs. Ernest McEwen, the descendent of Charles Henry King, Sherwin's brother, at an unknown date.
