Scope and Contents

The D.H. Lawrence Collection consists of correspondence, typescripts, proofs, photographs and two original drawings from publisher William H. Heineman's files for The Letters of D.H. Lawrence, edited by Aldous Huxley (London: William Heineman, 1932. Shelfmark: 20th Cent Eng L419le.l). The register provides an index to this correspondence, including information about letters used in H.T. Moore's The Collected Letters of D.H. Lawrence (New York: Viking Press, 1962. Shelfmark: 20th Cent Eng L419co), as well as in Huxley's edition. Less than half of the correspondence held in the collection was published in Huxley's or Moore's completed works. Some of the correspondents include Dorothy Brett, Edward Garnett, James Middleton Murry, Katherine Mansfield, and literary agent James B. Pinker.

Abstract

Lawrence (1885-1930) English novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, painter, translator, and literary critic is regarded as one of the twentieth century's most influential and controversial authors. The D.H. Lawrence Collection consists of correspondence, typescripts, proofs, photographs and two original drawings from publisher William H. Heineman's files for The Letters of D.H. Lawrence, edited by Aldous Huxley (London: William Heineman, 1932. Shelfmark: 20th Cent Eng L419le.l).

Arrangement

The correspondence is arranged alphabetically, and the addenda material is arranged by subject matter.
