Arno B. Luckhardt papers
Content Description
Collection consists mainly of the contents of a scrapbook compiled by Arno B. Luckhardt, PhD, professor of physiology at the University of Chicago, of portraits of prominent historical physicians. Many of the portraits are original engravings from the book Bibliotheca chalcographica (pub. ca. 1650), edited by Jean-Jacques Boissard and engraved by Johann Theodore de Bry; there are facsimile portraits printed on glossy paper as well. Also includes the typewritten manuscript of a speech given by Luckhardt at the unveiling of a portrait of Dr. William Harvey on temporary exhibition in the Northwestern University Medical School library on May 29th, 1943, in connection with the annual joint meeting of the Kanine Kennel Klub and the American College of Dog Surgeons.

Abstract

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Portrait collection was a gift of Frederick Stenn in August 1969. Speech manuscript was a complimentary copy given in 1944.
Condition Description
Manuscript is on thin onion skin paper and has typical wear. Some of the facsimile physician portraits have remnants of mounting corners stuck to them.
