Marcus P. Hatfield scrapbook

Scrapbook kept by Marcus Patten Hatfield, MD, Professor of Chemistry and Toxicology and later Chair of Pediatrics at Chicago Medical College, the forerunner of the Feinberg School of Medicine. The scrapbook covers his time as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago (1866-67) and Wesleyan University (1867-70); in medical school at Chicago Medical College (1870-72); and doing post-graduate work in Europe (1873-74), as well as his first few years on the faculty of Chicago Medical College in the 1870s. Undergraduate items include tickets and programs from school events (including from Wesleyan after he graduated in 1870), photographs of Hatfield and others, lists of exam questions, newspaper clippings, and other ephemera, as well as materials related to a Wesleyan alumni association started by Hatfield in Chicago. Medical school items include lecture and laboratory tickets, announcements and programs from the school, timetables of lecture hours, newspaper clippings about events, certificates for attendance of lectures and for serving as Assistant to the House-Surgeon of Mercy Hospital, a photograph of and note from Professor Edmund Andrews, and correspondence from other faculty related to Hatfield's internship at Mercy Hospital. Items from European study include photographs of German professors and their lecture tickets as well as other miscellaneous photographs. Also includes an 1842 letter from Hatfield's maternal uncle Marcus Lorenzo Taft to Hatfield's father Robert M. Hatfield.
