Biography

Mexican composer Antonio Gomezanda was born on September 3, 1894 in Lagos (Jalisco). He studied piano and composition with Manuel M. Ponce and Julian Carrillo at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and later went to Berlin to study composition and conducting. He held teaching positions at the National Conservatory and the University of Mexico. He wrote over 300 compositions, many with strong nationalist themes. He died in Mexico City on March 24, 1961.
