Description of the addition

Additions to the Dental School student records fill twenty-three boxes and span the period 1940-1980. The records pertain to candidates for the D.D.S. degree and for the Diploma of Dental Hygiene. Records relating to D.D.S. candidates are arranged into five chronological groups reflecting the period 1940-1970 and the years 1971, 1972, 1979, and 1980. Within these groups files on individual students are arranged alphabetically by surname. Student records from the period 1940-1970 are incomplete; only students with surnames beginning with the letters N through Pi are represented. Records relating to candidates for the Diploma of Dental Hygiene are found at the end of the addition and date from the years 1964 to 1980. These are arranged alphabetically by student surname. Each student file typically includes: a completed application for admission to the Dental School; copies of Dental School transcripts and, in many cases, transcripts from undergraduate institutions and secondary schools; reports concerning results on standard dental school admissions examinations; letters of recommendation; official forms such as diploma releases and requests for transcripts; general correspondence; and other related materials. Application for admission forms often include an attached photograph. Forms dating from 1972 and earlier generally note information concerning the applicant's parents, financial assets, and extracurricular activities and interests; many feature a brief essay.
