Faculty Cards, 1856 - 1926

 Series
Identifier: Series 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The College of Arts and Sciences faculty and assistants records consist of two sets of index cards, filling four boxes. The first set contains faculty cards only and spans the years 1856-1926. The second set includes two folders of assistants cards as well as faculty cards and dates from 1922 to 1939. The assistantships represented here are usually held by graduate students either in a research or teaching capacity for departments of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The same information is contained on all the cards (for both faculty and assistants) including: name; department; degree; date of degree and the name of the institution that granted the degree: a list of the years spent teaching at Northwestern; professional rank; date and place of birth; and the date of departure from Northwestern, in some cases why. The second set of cards also includes an address and sometimes a salary amount. Some of the cards have miscellaneous information written on the back.
