Paid Bills, 1969 - 1974-06

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 6
Identifier: Folder 6

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This series consists chiefly of records of Chapin Hall's financial transactions from 1968 to 1975. The ledger lists expenditures and receipts recorded in the vouchers and deposit slips. The folder of paid bills contains original receipts for selected expenditures for Chapin from 1969 to 1974. Treasurer's materials include instructions and information for properly keeping account records. Some of these materials originated from the Student Activities Office, some from Norris Center, and one letter was from an existing treasurer to advise future officers.

An additional folder contains unrelated information and regulations about the Hall, the constitution, and by-laws of the Women's Educational Association. A list of the 1973/1974 residents, a newsletter, and materials related to housing are also included.

The entries in the expenditure vouchers give some insight into what life for a Chapin woman might have been like. Money spent on events such as ski trips, parties, Easter egg hunt foods, refreshments for finals week, etc., demonstrated typical college entertainment of the day. Also, the Hall rules and regulations suggest the specific lifestyle for college women of the period--restrictions on male callers, dress code, curfew hours, and the like.
