Degree Recipients

 Series
Identifier: Series 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This series of Medical School student records fills thirty-nine record centers cartons and spans the years from 1902 through 1959 while bulking in the period following 1930. The series is divided into two subseries: records on recipients of the M.D. degree and records on students withdrawing from the Medical School prior to completing degree requirements.

Records on degree recipients are boxed in the first thirty-two cartons of the series and span the period 1902-1941. For the period 1903-1911, the records consist solely of transcript cards bearing the individual's student's name and age, address, and parents' names and a list of degrees awarded and course credits. For all other years records on students are foldered according to individual and tend to be more extensive. Folders may include: applications for admission to study, related correspondence, undergraduate transcripts, recommendations, internship reports, certificates, and Medical School transcripts.

The records on withdrawn students span the period 1902-1959 and are boxed in the final seven cartons of the series. The records include mainly the same types of documentation as the degree recipient files in addition to forms stating individuals' reasons for withdrawl.
