Scope and Contents

This collection, filling four boxes, includes brief, index card records of individuals’ appointment to Northwestern University faculty and senior administrative positions. Cards within the collection document name of faculty member or administrator, title and year of appointment, years and titles of subsequent appointments, and – sometimes – year of retirement from the Northwestern faculty or administrative staff. Cards are arranged alphabetically by surname of faculty or administrative staff member. The records span the period from 1853, with the appointment of Rev. Clark T. Hinman as Northwestern’s first president, to about 1971, when new appointments ceased to be recorded. Record cards already within the collection were updated, to about 1980, with information concerning promotions and retirements.
