This series consists largely of correspondence, memoranda, and reports on various matters concerning the internal functioning of the Department of Psychology and its relationships with the University and the College of Arts and Sciences. The records span the period 1947 through 1982, with the great bulk dating between 1967 and 1975, and are arranged alphabetically by subject.

The series includes a folder of annual reports detailing the activities of the Department from 1953 through 1975; a folder of Department meeting minutes (1958-1975); and lists of Ph.D. graduates and the titles of their dissertations (1925-1972). Other subjects documented in some detail include accreditation of the Department's programs by the American Psychological Association; course and curriculum revisions; allocation, construction, and remodeling of space for the Department; and staffing of psychology courses in the University's Evening Division.

Method of Acquisition

These records were transferred to the University Archives by Hazel Gerber, Departmental Assistant, Department of Psychology, on May 21, 1982 (Accession #82-65).

Separated Materials

6 linear inches of commencement programs, publications, and faculty reprints were removed to duplicate files, general files, and biographical files, respectively. 1.5 inches of advertisements, blank forms, and duplicates were discarded. 2.5 archival boxes of budget material were separated to form the Psychology Department Financial Records (Series 11/3/23/4). 1 archival box of personnel files was separated to form the Psychology Department Personnel Records (Series 11/3/23/5).
