Scope and Contents

Folders 1-6 of the original Wood file on the unsuccessful effort to purchase effective control of the Enquirer:

  • Folder 1: Invitation from Halsey Stuart & Co. to bid. Tribune bid dated April 26, 1956. Tentative announcements prepared for issuance on success or failure of the bid
  • Folder 2: Newspaper comments on the developments in Cincinnati
  • Folder 3: Pencilled notations on the proposed deal
  • Folder 4: More clippings. This also includes a February 28 telegram from Ward Quaal advising Howard Wood of the approaching offer and an office memo from F.A. Nichols regarding Mr. Wood's interest

  • Folder 6: Financial data on the Enquirer: regarding ownership, circulation and advertising
