Wood memos of September 5 and September 9. 1958, regarding the visit of Allen Kander, a newspaper broker, in connection with the possible purchase of the Baltimore Sun; the interest of the Cowles (Minneapolis) family in buying the Rockford papers; and a possible merger of the Chicago Daily News and Chicago American. The second memo tells of a discussion with Arthur Hall, general manager of the Chicago Daily News, about the possible merger
